About this tool

Choose a video, set the frames per second (1 to 30, default 12) and press Process. The tool uses ffmpeg compiled to WebAssembly in your browser to convert the whole video into an animated GIF scaled to 480 pixels wide, with the height set automatically. Your video is not uploaded. There is no trim control, so the entire video is converted: cut long clips to just the part you want first, because GIFs get big quickly. A lower frame rate gives a smaller file. The first run downloads the ffmpeg engine (about 25 MB), and processing runs in a single browser thread, so longer videos can be slow.

How to use it

  1. Drop a short video or choose a file.
  2. Set FPS; 12 is a good start, lower for a smaller GIF.
  3. Press Process and wait for it to finish.
  4. Preview the GIF and press Download.

Common problems

The GIF is very large
GIF is an inefficient format. Use a shorter clip and a lower FPS.
It takes a long time or fails
Long or high-resolution videos use a lot of memory in the browser. Try a shorter clip.
The output is smaller than the video
The width is fixed at 480 pixels. There is no option to change it.
