About this tool
Choose a short video and the tool converts it to an animated PNG that loops forever, using ffmpeg in WebAssembly. It runs in your browser and the file is not uploaded. APNG supports full color and transparency and is lossless per frame, but it has no frame-rate or size options here, so every frame at the original resolution is kept. That makes files very large for anything longer than a few seconds. Use a short, small clip. The first run downloads the ffmpeg engine (about 25 MB) from a CDN, which can take from a few seconds to a minute on a slow connection; later runs on the same page reuse it.
How to use it
- Drop a short video or choose a file.
- Press Process.
- Wait for the progress bar; long clips take a long time.
- Preview and press Download (output.apng).
Common problems
- The APNG is huge or processing runs out of memory
- All frames are kept at full size. Trim the clip first with the Video Trimmer and use a short, low-resolution source.
- The preview or other apps show a still image
- Not every app supports APNG. Browsers do; some editors do not.
- Nothing happens for a while on the first run
- The ffmpeg engine (about 25 MB) is downloading. Wait for the progress bar; later runs reuse it.
