About this tool
Pick any audio file your browser accepts and press Process. The tool re-encodes it to an MP3 at a fixed 96 kbps bitrate using ffmpeg compiled to WebAssembly, so it runs in your browser and the file is not uploaded. There are no settings to adjust. The result is lossy, which is fine for speech, podcasts and voice notes, but you will hear a difference on high-quality music. If the source is already at or below 96 kbps, the output may not be smaller. The first run downloads the ffmpeg engine (about 25 MB) from a CDN, which can take from a few seconds to a minute on a slow connection; later runs on the same page reuse it.
How to use it
- Drop an audio file or choose one.
- Press Process.
- Wait for the progress bar to finish.
- Preview the result and press Download; the file is saved as output.mp3.
Common problems
- The output is not smaller than the original
- The original is probably already at a low bitrate. A fixed 96 kbps cannot shrink it further, so keep the original.
- I want a different bitrate
- This tool has no bitrate setting. It always writes 96 kbps MP3.
- Nothing happens for a while on the first run
- The ffmpeg engine (about 25 MB) is downloading. Wait for the progress bar; later runs reuse it.
