About this tool

Choose an audio file, pick an output format from MP3, WAV, OGG, M4A or FLAC, and press Process. ffmpeg, compiled to WebAssembly, converts it with its default encoder settings for that format; there are no bitrate or sample-rate options. Everything runs in your browser and the file is not uploaded. Converting to WAV or FLAC does not restore quality lost in an earlier lossy file, and converting to MP3, OGG or M4A re-encodes the audio, so some quality is lost. The first run downloads the ffmpeg engine (about 25 MB) from a CDN, which can take from a few seconds to a minute on a slow connection; later runs on the same page reuse it.

How to use it

  1. Drop an audio file or choose one.
  2. Select the output format.
  3. Press Process and wait for the progress bar.
  4. Preview and press Download; the file is named output.<format>.

Common problems

Conversion to OGG fails
The in-browser ffmpeg build may not include every encoder. If OGG fails, try MP3, M4A or FLAC instead.
The WAV or FLAC file is much larger
These formats are uncompressed or losslessly compressed, so they are larger than MP3. That is expected.
It is slow, or the tab freezes or runs out of memory
ffmpeg runs in a single browser thread on your device. Use a shorter or smaller file and close other heavy tabs.
