PNG to WebP
Convert PNG images to WebP and keep transparency.
Runs in your browser Your input never leaves your device.
About this tool
Choose a PNG and it is converted to WebP in your browser. A Quality slider from 0.1 to 1 (default 0.85) controls the compression and re-runs the conversion when you change it. Transparent areas of the PNG stay transparent in the WebP. The result is previewed with its pixel size and file size in KB, and the Download button saves png-to-webp.webp. At the default quality the conversion is lossy, so very sharp graphics such as screenshots may show slight artifacts; raise the quality to reduce them. Your image is never uploaded, and your browser must support WebP encoding.
How to use it
- Drop a PNG or choose a file.
- Set the Quality slider.
- Compare the new file size with the original.
- Press Download.
Common problems
- Text or sharp lines look slightly blurry
- Lossy WebP can soften fine edges. Move the Quality slider closer to 1.
- The WebP is larger than expected
- Some simple graphics compress very well as PNG. Check the size shown and keep the smaller file.
- Only PNG files are accepted
- Use the JPG to WebP tool for JPEGs.
