Hash Generator

Generate different hashes.

Runs in your browser Your input never leaves your device.

About this tool

Type or paste text and see its MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512 hashes at once. They update as you type. The text is converted to UTF-8 first. SHA hashes use the browser's built-in Web Crypto, and MD5 uses a small JavaScript implementation. Nothing is sent to a server. Hashes are one-way fingerprints: the same input always gives the same output, and a tiny change gives a completely different one. MD5 and SHA-1 are no longer considered secure for passwords or signatures.

How to use it

  1. Enter the text to hash.
  2. Read all five hashes.
  3. Copy the one you need.

Example

SHA-384 and SHA-512 lines are also shown for the same input.

Input
hello
Result
MD5: 5d41402abc4b2a76b9719d911017c592
SHA-1: aaf4c61ddcc5e8a2dabede0f3b482cd9aea9434d
SHA-256: 2cf24dba5fb0a30e26e83b2ac5b9e29e1b161e5c1fa7425e73043362938b9824
(SHA-384 and SHA-512 follow)

Common problems

Hash does not match another tool
Check for a trailing space or newline: "hello" and "hello\n" hash differently. Also confirm both tools hash the text as UTF-8.
Need to hash a file
This tool hashes text typed or pasted into the box, not files.
Using it to store passwords
Plain MD5 or SHA hashes are fast to crack. Use a slow password hashing function such as bcrypt or Argon2 on your server.
