Word Density Counter
Count how often each word appears in your text and show the share of all words.
Runs in your browser Your input never leaves your device.
About this tool
This tool shows which words you use most. It lowercases the text, splits it into words made of letters (any language), digits and apostrophes, counts every word, and lists the most frequent ones with a count and the share of all words as a percentage. Set the Top N field to choose how many entries to show (20 by default). Unlike the Keyword Extractor, it does not remove common words, so words like the and and will usually lead the list. It runs in your browser.
How to use it
- Paste your text into the input box.
- Set Top N to the number of words you want listed.
- Read the counts and percentages in the output.
- Press Copy to save the list.
Example
Top N set to 3. Ties keep the order of first appearance.
the cat and the hat
the: 2 (40.0%) cat: 1 (20.0%) and: 1 (20.0%)
Common problems
- Common words fill the top of the list
- Stop words are not removed here. Use the Keyword Extractor if you want content words only.
- Words with accents are cut in pieces
- Only a to z, digits and apostrophes count as word letters, so accented and non-Latin text is split incorrectly.
- Percentages look small
- Each percentage is that word's share of all words in the text, not of the unique words.
