Alphabetical Line Sorter
Sort lines of text A to Z or Z to A.
Runs in your browser Your input never leaves your device.
About this tool
Paste a list and the tool sorts its lines in ascending (A to Z) or descending (Z to A) order. By default blank lines are removed and the sort is case-sensitive, which means uppercase letters sort before lowercase ones (so Cherry comes before apple). Turn on Case-insensitive to ignore capitalization. Sorting compares plain text character by character and is not language- or number-aware, so "10" sorts before "2" and accented letters sort after z. Descending order is the ascending result reversed. Everything runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded.
How to use it
- Paste your lines, one per line.
- Choose Ascending or Descending.
- Tick Case-insensitive and Remove empty lines as needed.
- Press Copy to take the sorted list.
Example
Default settings (case-sensitive): the capital C sorts first. With Case-insensitive on, the order is apple, banana, Cherry.
banana Cherry apple
Cherry apple banana
Common problems
- Numbers sort in the wrong order
- Lines are compared as text, so 10 comes before 2. Pad numbers with leading zeros, such as 02 and 10.
- Capitalized words jump to the top
- Turn on Case-insensitive.
- Blank lines disappeared
- Remove empty lines is on by default. Untick it to keep them (they sort to the top).
