Text Separator
Split text into separate lines at any character or string.
Runs in your browser Your input never leaves your device.
About this tool
This tool splits text at a character or string you choose and puts each piece on its own line. Type the separator in the Split on field (a period by default). Every occurrence is replaced with a line break. The match is exact and case-sensitive, and the separator itself is removed from the result. Spaces around the pieces are kept, so you may see a leading space on lines after a comma and a space. If the field is empty, the text is returned as it is. It runs in your browser as you type.
How to use it
- Paste your text into the input box.
- Enter the character or text to split on in Split on.
- Read the lines in the output.
- Press Copy to use them.
Example
Split on a period.
a.b.c
a b c
Common problems
- Lines start with a space
- Only the exact separator is removed. If your text uses a comma and a space, enter the comma and the space in Split on, or trim the lines afterward.
- Splitting on a regular expression
- The field is treated as literal text, not a pattern. You cannot split on a range of characters at once.
