SRT to VTT Converter
Easily convert SRT subtitle files to WebVTT format for web video compatibility.

About this tool
WebVTT is the subtitle format that HTML5 video players read, while many tools export SRT. This converter takes SRT text and turns it into WebVTT. It changes the comma before the milliseconds in each timestamp to a dot (00:00:01,000 becomes 00:00:01.000) and adds the required WEBVTT line at the top. Cue numbers and text are left as they are, which WebVTT allows. Paste the text, copy the result and save it as a .vtt file. It works on pasted text only and does not upload or read files. The conversion runs in your browser.
How to use it
- Open your .srt file in a text editor and copy its contents.
- Paste the text into the input box.
- Copy the converted output.
- Save it in a new file with the .vtt extension.
Example
1 00:00:01,000 --> 00:00:03,500 Hello there
WEBVTT 1 00:00:01.000 --> 00:00:03.500 Hello there
Common problems
- Timestamps are not converted
- The tool expects the format 00:00:01,000 with two-digit hours. Fix any timestamps in another shape first.
- Styling tags are kept as they are
- Tags like <i> or font tags are not rewritten. Some are valid in WebVTT, others may be ignored by a player.
- Player shows no subtitles
- Save the file as UTF-8 and check that the WEBVTT line is the first line.
