About this tool

A palindrome reads the same forward and backward, like level or the phrase A man, a plan, a canal: Panama. This tool runs two checks. First it tests for an exact match of your text, character for character. If that fails, it removes everything except letters (in any language) and digits, ignores case, and tests again. The result says whether your text is a palindrome exactly, a palindrome once case, spaces and punctuation are ignored, or not a palindrome. The check runs in your browser as you type.

How to use it

  1. Type or paste a word or phrase.
  2. Read the result below the input.
  3. Edit the text to test another.

Example

Input
A man, a plan, a canal: Panama
Result
✓ This is a palindrome ignoring case, spaces and punctuation.

Common problems

A phrase in another alphabet always fails the loose check
The ignoring-punctuation test keeps only a to z and 0 to 9. Text in Greek, Cyrillic or accented letters can pass only with an exact match.
Spaces make it fail
An exact match counts spaces and capitals. The loose check ignores them, so read the second message too.
