MX Lookup

Look up the mail (MX) servers for a domain and their priorities.

Looks up live data What you enter is sent to our server to fetch live results from public sources. Results are cached briefly.

About this tool

MX records tell the internet which servers accept email for a domain. Enter a domain and the tool asks Cloudflare's public DNS resolver (over DNS-over-HTTPS) for its MX records, then lists each mail server with its priority and TTL, lowest priority number first. Mail is tried on the lowest number first and falls back to higher ones. Results are cached on our server for about five minutes, so a record you just changed may take a little while to appear. If no records are returned the domain either has none or does not exist.

How to use it

  1. Enter a domain such as example.com.
  2. Press Look up MX.
  3. Read the list of exchanges and priorities.
  4. Compare them with what your email provider told you to configure.

Common problems

No MX records found
The domain may not receive email, the name may be misspelled, or the DNS change has not propagated yet.
Old servers still appear after a change
Resolvers and our short cache hold the old answer until the TTL runs out. Wait and look again.
Entering an email address fails
Enter only the domain part, the text after the @.
