Keyword Extractor
List the most frequent words in your text with counts, ignoring common English stop words.
Runs in your browser Your input never leaves your device.
About this tool
This tool lists the words that appear most often in your text. It lowercases everything, picks out words of three or more letters (letters in any language, with apostrophes and hyphens allowed), drops a built-in list of about 90 common English words such as the, and, with and your, then counts what is left. You choose how many to show with the Top N field (15 by default). The result is a list of single words with their counts, not phrases. It works best on English text. Digits are ignored. All processing happens in your browser.
How to use it
- Paste your text into the input box.
- Set Top N to the number of keywords you want.
- Read the list of words and counts in the output.
- Press Copy to save it.
Example
Top N set to 3. Short and common words like and and the are skipped.
Cats chase mice. Mice fear cats and the cats nap.
cats (3) mice (2) chase (1)
Common problems
- Words with accents or non-Latin letters are broken up or missing
- Only the letters a to z are recognised, so other alphabets and accented characters do not form keywords.
- Different forms of a word are counted separately
- cat and cats are two entries. Merge the counts yourself if needed.
- A common word still shows up
- Only a fixed list of English stop words is removed. Ignore any generic words that remain.
