YouTube Thumbnail Downloader

Download high-quality thumbnails from any YouTube video instantly.

Looks up live data Runs in your browser, but thumbnails are loaded directly from YouTube.

About this tool

Paste a YouTube link or an 11-character video ID and this tool shows the video's thumbnail in four sizes: Max (1280x720), SD (640x480), HQ (480x360) and MQ (320x180). It recognizes watch links with v=, youtu.be short links, embed links and Shorts links. The images are loaded directly from YouTube's image server (img.youtube.com) by your browser, and the tool itself does no uploading. Each size has a link that opens the full image in a new tab, where you can save it. Thumbnails belong to their creators, so check usage rights before reusing them.

How to use it

  1. Copy the link of a YouTube video.
  2. Paste it into the box. The Video ID is detected automatically.
  3. Click the size you want to open the image in a new tab.
  4. Right-click and save the image if the Open link does not download it.

Common problems

Could not find a video ID
Use a link with v=, a youtu.be link, an embed, Shorts or live link, or just the 11-character ID. Playlist-only links and other link shapes are not recognized.
Fewer than four sizes are shown
Not every video has every size. When YouTube has no 1280x720 (or other) image, that card is hidden automatically and the next best size is shown, down to the smallest.
Open does not download the file
Browsers often ignore the download hint for images from another site. Right-click the image and choose Save image as.
