About this tool

Choose a video and press Process to pull out its audio. ffmpeg in WebAssembly drops the video stream and writes the sound as output.mp3 using its default MP3 encoder settings. It runs in your browser and the video is not uploaded. The audio is re-encoded, so it is lossy. This tool has no options; Video to MP3 is a close sibling that requests a specific VBR quality setting. A silent video produces an error or an empty file. The first run downloads the ffmpeg engine (about 25 MB) from a CDN, which can take from a few seconds to a minute on a slow connection; later runs on the same page reuse it.

How to use it

  1. Drop a video or choose a file.
  2. Press Process.
  3. Wait for the progress bar to finish.
  4. Play the preview and press Download.

Common problems

Processing fails
The video may have no audio track, or an unusual format. Check it plays with sound, or convert to MP4 first.
It is slow, or the tab freezes or runs out of memory
ffmpeg runs in a single browser thread on your device. Use a shorter or smaller file and close other heavy tabs.
Nothing happens for a while on the first run
The ffmpeg engine (about 25 MB) is downloading. Wait for the progress bar; later runs reuse it.
