About this tool
Convert power between watt (W), kilowatt (kW), megawatt (MW), horsepower (hp) and BTU per hour (BTU/hr). Kilowatts and megawatts suit electrical loads and generators, horsepower is used for engines and motors, and BTU per hour is common for heaters and air conditioners. Everything converts through watts. The horsepower here is the mechanical horsepower at 745.7 watts, not the metric horsepower (about 735.5 watts) common in Europe, so results differ by roughly 1.4% from a car's PS rating. The result is labeled with the symbol and shows up to 8 decimals. Power in kilowatts is not energy in kilowatt-hours; use the energy converter for that.

Common problems
- Metric horsepower (PS or CV) gives a different answer
- This tool uses mechanical horsepower (745.7 W). Metric horsepower is about 735.5 watts.
- kW vs kWh
- Kilowatts are a rate of power, kilowatt-hours are energy. Use the energy converter for kWh.
- Air conditioner ratings in tons
- Tons of refrigeration are not offered. One ton is 12,000 BTU/hr.
