About this tool
Convert an angle between four units: degree (°), radian (rad), gradian (grad) and milliradian (mrad). Degrees are the everyday unit, radians are standard in math and programming, gradians divide a right angle into 100, and milliradians (one thousandth of a radian) are used in optics and rifle scopes. Conversions pass through degrees, with the radian stored as 57.29577951 degrees, so 180 degrees gives 3.14159265 rad. Degrees to gradians is exact (90 degrees is 100 grad). The menus show full names with the symbol, and the result is labeled with the symbol. Up to 8 decimal places are shown.
How to use it
- Type the value to convert.
- Choose the From and To units.
- Read the result, which updates as you type.
- Use Swap to reverse the units or Copy to copy the result.
Example
90 degree to gradian
100 grad
Common problems
- 180 degrees is not exactly pi
- The result is shown to 8 decimals (3.14159265 rad), so it is rounded. Use the symbol pi if you need full precision.
- Negative or very large angles
- They convert as plain numbers. The tool does not wrap angles to 0-360 degrees.
