About this tool
Converts a PNG to a JPEG to reduce file size, which helps with email limits, uploads and web pages with photos. A Quality slider (0.1 to 1, default 0.85) trades size against detail. JPEG cannot store transparency, so any transparent area in the PNG is filled with white before encoding. The output keeps the original dimensions and downloads as png-to-jpg.jpg. JPEG is lossy and works best for photographs; for screenshots, logos and text it can add fuzzy halos around sharp edges, where the original PNG is the better format. The work is done in your browser and the file is not uploaded.
How to use it
- Drop a PNG or choose a file.
- Adjust Quality; lower makes a smaller file.
- Check the preview and size.
- Press Download.
Common problems
- Background turned white
- JPEG has no transparency, so transparent pixels become white.
- Text and lines look fuzzy
- Raise Quality, or keep the PNG for graphics with sharp edges.
- File did not get smaller
- Simple graphics can be tiny as PNG already. Photos compress best.
