About this tool
Create a .ico icon file from a JPG. The picture is fitted inside a square without stretching, and a non-square image is centred with transparent padding. The ICO holds four standard sizes (16, 32, 48 and 256 pixels), each stored as a PNG-compressed icon image that keeps transparency, which is what favicon and Windows icon tools expect. Since JPG has no transparency, the picture itself stays opaque, with transparent bars only where it is padded. Everything runs in your browser; the file is not uploaded.
How to use it
- Crop your picture to a square if you want it to fill the icon.
- Drop the JPG or choose a file.
- Check the icon preview.
- Press Download.
Common problems
- Icon has empty bars at the sides
- A non-square image is not stretched or cropped; it is centered in a square with transparent padding. Crop to 1:1 first for a full-bleed icon.
- Image is small or blurry
- The icon side equals your image's longest edge, capped at 256 px and raised to at least 32 px, so a tiny image is enlarged to 32 px.
- Need transparency
- JPG cannot hold it. Use PNG to ICO with a transparent PNG.
