About this tool
Converts a .jfif (JPEG) image to WebP, which is often smaller than the original at similar visual quality. A Quality slider (0.1 to 1, default 0.85) controls the compression. The file is decoded and re-encoded by your browser, which means the picture goes through a second lossy step, so keep Quality fairly high if the image matters. Output is named jfif-to-webp.webp. WebP works in current browsers and most modern sites but some older desktop programs cannot open it. Nothing is uploaded; the whole job runs on your device.
How to use it
- Drop a .jfif or JPEG file or choose one.
- Set Quality (0.85 is the default).
- Compare the preview and size.
- Press Download.
Common problems
- Quality loss on a second pass
- JPEG to WebP re-compresses lossy data. Use a higher Quality value for important images.
- An app cannot open the WebP
- Use JFIF to PNG or rename to .jpg for older software.
- Size barely changes
- Already well-compressed JPEGs may not shrink much.
