About this tool

JFIF files are JPEG images saved with a .jfif extension, common when downloading pictures from some browsers and apps; many programs do not recognize the extension. This tool opens the file in your browser and saves a lossless PNG (jfif-to-png.png) at the same pixel size. The conversion fixes the compatibility problem, but it does not improve the picture: JPEG compression already lost detail. PNG files from photographs are usually much larger. If you just need a widely supported image with a small size, JFIF to WebP or simply renaming to .jpg may suit you better. Everything runs in your browser; the file is not uploaded.

How to use it

  1. Drop a .jfif or JPEG file or choose one.
  2. Wait for the preview.
  3. Check the size shown.
  4. Press Download.

Common problems

PNG is much bigger
PNG is lossless, so a photo grows. Choose WebP for a smaller file.
File will not select
The picker accepts .jfif and JPEG images. Rename an odd extension to .jpg.
Expecting transparency
The source JPEG has none, so the PNG will be fully opaque.
