ICO to PNG

About this tool

Turn a favicon or Windows .ico file into a PNG you can edit, upload or place in a document. The browser decodes the icon and the tool saves it as a lossless PNG at the icon's own pixel size, keeping transparency. An .ico can contain several sizes; this tool outputs a single image, so you get the size the browser decodes rather than a choice of all of them. Typical use is grabbing a site's favicon as a normal image. The download is named ico-to-png.png. Everything runs in your browser; the file is not uploaded.

How to use it

1. Drop a .ico file or choose one.
2. Wait for the preview and the dimensions to appear.
3. Press Download.

Common problems

The PNG is tiny

Icons are often 16x16 or 32x32. The tool does not resize, so use the Image Upscaler if you need it larger, keeping in mind it only smooths pixels.

Only one size comes out

Multi-size icons are not split into separate files here.

File not accepted

The picker expects .ico files. Rename a real icon with the correct extension if needed.
