About this tool
Convert an iPhone HEIC/HEIF photo to WebP when you want a small, web-friendly image that still has decent quality. The file is decoded in your browser with libheif (a WebAssembly decoder of roughly 2 MB that loads the first time you convert a file) and encoded by the browser as WebP at a fixed quality of 0.9, then saved as image.webp. WebP is supported by current browsers and many CMSs, and keeps transparency, but older desktop software and some email clients may not open it. If you need universal compatibility, choose HEIC to JPG instead. Everything runs in your browser; the file is not uploaded.
How to use it
- Drop a .heic or .heif file or choose one.
- Wait for the conversion; the first run downloads the decoder.
- Check the preview and size.
- Press Download.
Common problems
- Output is not WebP or the download fails
- WebP encoding depends on the browser. Use a current Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari.
- The WebP will not open in an older app
- Convert to JPG for maximum compatibility.
- Only one picture is produced from a multi-image HEIC
- Just the first image in the file is converted.
