About this tool
This tool turns an Apple HEIC/HEIF photo into a PNG. It decodes the file in your browser with libheif (a WebAssembly decoder of roughly 2 MB that loads the first time you convert a file) and saves the pixels losslessly as image.png. Choose PNG over JPG when you want to edit the picture further without another round of compression, or when the image has transparency, which PNG keeps. Expect a much bigger file than the HEIC: a photo that is a couple of MB as HEIC can become many times larger as PNG. Everything runs in your browser; the file is not uploaded. Only the first image in the file is converted.
How to use it
- Drop a .heic or .heif file or choose one.
- Wait while the decoder loads and the image converts.
- Check the dimensions and file size shown.
- Press Download.
Common problems
- The PNG is huge
- PNG is lossless. If size matters more than exactness, use HEIC to JPG or HEIC to WEBP.
- Could not convert this file
- The file must be a valid HEIC/HEIF image. Re-export it from the Photos app if it is damaged.
- Browser runs out of memory on very large photos
- Close other tabs, or convert one file at a time.
