About this tool
Choose a video, select MP4, WebM, MKV, MOV or AVI as the output, and press Process. ffmpeg, compiled to WebAssembly, re-encodes the video using its default settings for that container; there are no quality, resolution or codec options. It runs in your browser and the file is not uploaded. Re-encoding is lossy and is slow compared with desktop software, because it runs in a single browser thread, so big files can take a long time or run out of memory. The first run downloads the ffmpeg engine (about 25 MB) from a CDN, which can take from a few seconds to a minute on a slow connection; later runs on the same page reuse it.
How to use it
- Drop a video or choose a file.
- Select the output format.
- Press Process and wait for the progress bar.
- Preview and press Download (output.<format>).
Common problems
- It is slow, or the tab freezes or runs out of memory
- ffmpeg runs in a single browser thread on your device. Use a shorter or smaller file and close other heavy tabs.
- The converted file will not play in some players
- WebM and AVI/MOV support varies by player. MP4 is the most widely compatible choice.
- The result is much bigger than the original
- Default encoder settings are not tuned for size. Use the Video Compressor afterward to shrink it.
