About this tool
Percent-encode text so it can be used safely inside a URL, for example as a query string value. It applies JavaScript's encodeURIComponent: letters, digits and the characters - _ . ! ~ * ' ( ) stay as they are, and everything else, including spaces and non-ASCII letters, becomes %XX using UTF-8. Encoding runs in your browser as you type. Because it encodes slashes, colons and question marks too, it is meant for individual values, not whole URLs.
How to use it
- Paste the text or value to encode.
- Copy the encoded result.
- Insert it into your URL, for example after ?q=.
Example
Input
hello world&x=1/é
Result
hello%20world%26x%3D1%2F%C3%A9
Common problems
- Whole URL no longer works
- Characters such as : / ? & = are encoded too, so https://example.com/a b becomes https%3A%2F%2Fexample.com%2Fa%20b. Encode only the parts that need it, such as a query value.
- Spaces appear as %20, not +
- This tool uses %20. Most servers accept it in query strings, but form-style encoding uses +.
- Result gets encoded twice
- Encoding already-encoded text turns % into %25. Encode raw text only once.
