About this tool
Enter a price before tax and a tax rate to see how much tax is added and what you will pay in total. The tax amount is net price x rate / 100, and the gross price is net price plus tax. The tax rate starts at 8 and you can change it to match your local rate. Amounts are shown with two decimals and no currency symbol. This tool only adds tax to a net price. It does not work backward from a price that already includes tax, and it does not look up local rates or combine state, county and city taxes. Check rates with your local tax authority. Everything runs in your browser.
How to use it
- Enter the net (pre-tax) price.
- Set the tax rate as a percentage.
- Read the tax amount and the gross price.

49.99 x 0.08 = 3.9992, shown as 4.00.

Common problems
- I have a price that already includes tax
- This tool cannot reverse it. Divide the total by (1 + rate/100) to get the net price, then enter that.
- Cents differ from the receipt
- Stores may round per item or per receipt. This tool rounds only the displayed result.
- No result is shown
- The net price must be greater than zero.
