About this tool
Converts tab-separated or comma-separated data into a JSON array. The first row is used as the column names, and each following row becomes an object with those names as keys. Pick Tab (TSV) or Comma (CSV) as the delimiter; the default is tab. Quoted fields are supported, including doubled quotes and line breaks inside quotes. Every value is written as a string, so numbers such as 30 appear as "30", and a row with fewer cells gets empty strings. Empty lines are skipped. The conversion runs in your browser and your data is not uploaded.
How to use it
- Paste your data with a header row, for example copied from a spreadsheet.
- Choose Tab or Comma.
- Copy the JSON output.
Example
name age Ann 30 Bob 25
[
{
"name": "Ann",
"age": "30"
},
{
"name": "Bob",
"age": "25"
}
]Common problems
- Everything is in one field
- The delimiter does not match your data. Try the other option; spreadsheets usually copy as tabs.
- Numbers appear in quotes
- All values are strings. Convert types in your own code if you need numbers or booleans.
- Duplicate column names
- Objects cannot have duplicate keys, so the later column overwrites the earlier one. Rename the headers first.
