Text to Binary
Convert Text to Binary

About this tool
Converts your text to binary using its UTF-8 bytes, with a space between bytes. Each byte is written in base 2 and padded to 8 digits, so A becomes 01000001. ASCII characters give one byte each, while characters such as é, € or an emoji give two to four bytes, for example € is 11100010 10000010 10101100. This matches what most other converters and programming languages produce. Conversion happens as you type in your browser. The Binary to Text tool reverses it and gives back the same text.
How to use it
- Type or paste your text.
- Read the groups of binary digits.
- Copy the output.
Example
Hi
01001000 01101001
Common problems
- An accented letter or emoji gives several groups
- UTF-8 stores characters outside basic ASCII in 2 to 4 bytes, so they appear as several 8-digit groups.
- Result differs from an older converter
- Some tools use 16-bit code units instead of UTF-8 bytes. This tool uses UTF-8, which is the standard for text files and the web.
- I want the characters back
- Paste the output into Binary to Text. Keep the spaces between groups.
