About this tool
Convert an SVG vector graphic to a .ico icon. The browser first renders the SVG as a bitmap at the size its width and height (or viewBox) give it. The picture is fitted inside a square without stretching, and a non-square image is centred with transparent padding. The ICO holds four standard sizes (16, 32, 48 and 256 pixels), each stored as a PNG-compressed icon image that keeps transparency, which is what favicon and Windows icon tools expect. A tiny SVG (say 24x24) is enlarged to fill the bigger icon sizes, so for a sharper icon set a larger width and height in the SVG file first. Everything runs in your browser; the file is not uploaded.
How to use it
- Check that your SVG has a width, height or viewBox.
- Drop the .svg file or choose it.
- Look at the icon preview.
- Press Download.
Common problems
- Icon is small or soft
- The output size follows the SVG's intrinsic size, clamped to 32 to 256 px. Edit the SVG to use larger width/height values.
- SVG fails to load
- The file must be valid SVG with a root svg element. External images and fonts referenced inside it may not render.
- Non-square SVG has empty bars
- It is centered in a square with transparent padding, not stretched. Make the artwork square to fill the icon.
