SSH Config Generator
Generate an OpenSSH client Host block for your ~/.ssh/config.
Runs in your browser Your input never leaves your device.
About this tool
Builds a Host block for your OpenSSH client config file (~/.ssh/config). Enter a host alias, the HostName (IP or domain), the User, a Port and an optional IdentityFile, and the tool writes the matching lines. The port is only written when it is not 22. It always adds ServerAliveInterval 60, which sends a keep-alive message every minute to help stop idle connections from dropping. After saving the block you can connect with just ssh and the alias. The tool does not connect to anything or check your values, and it does not make a key; it only produces text in your browser. Review it before pasting it into your config.
How to use it
- Enter an alias, the hostname or IP, and the user name.
- Change the port if the server does not use 22, and add the path to your private key if you use one.
- Copy the output and add it to ~/.ssh/config.
- Connect with ssh followed by your alias.
Example
Alias: myserver HostName: 192.0.2.1 User: root Port: 2222 IdentityFile: ~/.ssh/id_ed25519
Host myserver
HostName 192.0.2.1
User root
Port 2222
IdentityFile ~/.ssh/id_ed25519
ServerAliveInterval 60Common problems
- Permission denied after adding the config
- Check that IdentityFile points to the right private key and that the key file permissions are strict (for example chmod 600).
- Alias not recognized
- The Host line must match what you type after ssh exactly, and the block must be saved in ~/.ssh/config.
- Keep-alive is not wanted
- ServerAliveInterval 60 is always included; delete that line from the output if you do not want it.
