PWA Compatibility Checker

Check a page for six basic Progressive Web App signals (manifest link, viewport, HTTPS and more).

Looks up live data What you enter is sent to our server to fetch live results from public sources. Results are cached briefly.

About this tool

The tool fetches a page's HTML and checks six things: a link to a web app manifest, a viewport meta tag, a theme-color meta tag, the apple-mobile-web-app-capable tag, an apple-touch-icon link, and whether the final URL uses HTTPS. You see how many passed. It only looks for these tags in the HTML. It does not read the manifest file, look for a service worker, test offline behavior or run Lighthouse, so a high score does not prove the app is installable. The address you enter is sent to our server, which fetches the page; no JavaScript is run. Results are cached for about ten minutes.

How to use it

  1. Enter the page address.
  2. Press Check PWA.
  3. Read the list of passed and failed checks.
  4. Add the missing tags and confirm installability in your browser's developer tools.

Common problems

Manifest check fails though it exists
The link tag must be present in the HTML itself; one added by JavaScript is not seen.
All checks pass but the app cannot be installed
Service worker and manifest contents are not tested. Use Lighthouse for those.
Apple tags fail
They are optional for Android and desktop but used by iOS home-screen apps.
