Punycode to Unicode
Convert Punycode to Unicode

About this tool
Converts internationalized domain names from their ASCII Punycode form back into readable Unicode. Enter a domain such as xn--mnchen-3ya.de and the tool decodes each label that starts with xn-- and leaves the other labels untouched, giving münchen.de. This is useful for seeing what a suspicious or unfamiliar link really spells, for example when a link shows xn-- in the address bar or in an email. The tool only decodes the Punycode part; it does not apply other IDNA rules. The conversion works in your browser with no network lookup, so nothing is sent to our server.
How to use it
- Enter a domain containing xn-- labels.
- Read the Unicode version in the output.
- Compare it with the domain you expected.
Example
xn--mnchen-3ya.de
münchen.de
Common problems
- Output is the same as the input
- No label starts with xn--, so there is nothing to decode.
- Garbled or empty result
- The label after xn-- is not valid Punycode. Check for typos or extra characters.
- Only a domain, not a full URL
- Enter just the host name. A full URL with https:// and a path is treated as a dotted string and will not convert correctly.
