HTML to Markdown

Convert HTML into Markdown.

Runs in your browser Your input never leaves your device.

About this tool

Paste HTML and get the Markdown equivalent using the Turndown library. Headings become # lines, bold and italic become ** and *, links and images use the standard bracket syntax, and lists and fenced code blocks are converted too. It is useful for moving web content into a README, notes app or static site. The conversion runs in your browser and your markup is not uploaded. Markdown cannot express everything in HTML, so unusual markup such as complex tables, inline styles and scripts may be simplified or lost.

How to use it

  1. Paste your HTML into the input box.
  2. Read the Markdown in the output.
  3. Check headings, links and lists.
  4. Press Copy to use it.

Example

Lists use * with extra spaces.

Input
<h1>Title</h1><p>Some <strong>bold</strong> text and a <a href="https://example.com">link</a>.</p><ul><li>one</li><li>two</li></ul>
Result
# Title

Some **bold** text and a [link](https://example.com).

*   one
*   two

Common problems

Styling and layout disappear
Markdown has no colors or layout, so inline styles and classes are dropped.
A table does not convert to a Markdown table
Table support is not included, so rebuild tables by hand after converting.
Relative links stop working
Links keep their original value. Convert them to full URLs first if the Markdown will live elsewhere.
