CVE Lookup Tool

Search and analyze Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) details.

Looks up live data What you enter is sent to our server to fetch live results from public sources. Results are cached briefly.

About this tool

Looks up vulnerabilities in the US National Vulnerability Database (NVD). Enter an exact CVE ID such as CVE-2021-44228 to see that record, or any keyword to list up to 20 matching entries. Each result shows the CVE ID, publication date, English description, severity, base score and CVSS vector, using CVSS v3.1 when available, then v3.0, then v2. This tool uses our server: your search term is sent to our API, which queries the NVD live and may return a cached answer for up to six hours. If a CVE is new, it may not have a score yet, and then severity and score show N/A. The free NVD API is rate limited and shared by all visitors; if it refuses a request the tool says so and you can retry after about 30 seconds. Keyword results are sorted newest first.

How to use it

  1. Enter a CVE ID or a product keyword.
  2. Press Search.
  3. Read the description, score and vector for each result.
  4. Open the NVD page for the full record, affected versions and references.

Common problems

No results for a keyword
The NVD keyword search matches words in descriptions. Try a simpler or alternative product name, or search by CVE ID.
Severity and score show N/A
Recently published CVEs may not have been scored yet. Check again later.
An error from the NVD API
The NVD is a public service with its own limits and occasional outages. If you see a rate limit message, wait about 30 seconds and try again; successful lookups are cached for six hours.
